Hip 247: Stubben Saddle - HAS DEFECT

18 inch seat - 31 (wide) tree. (South Carolina)

Notes:

I bought this saddle represented as having an 18"" seat and a 31 tree (wide), and I believe those representations to be true. I've had this saddle for a good while. I cannot provide proof of the model (I suspect a Siegfriend) or the serial number or the tree size that would have been stamped on the billet cover because both billet covers, both left and right sides, are not there and were not when I bought the saddle. I believe the saddle to be riding sound. It could use a deep cleaning and conditioning but I believe the billets to be sound and the leathers to be sound. The left stirrup iron is stainless steel and while the white stirrup pad is worn, the stirrup iron itself looks great. The stirrup iron on the right side is not stainless steel and, while not pictured, is rusted (it has a pad, also).

The issue with this saddle is that, as pictured, the seat is beginning to separate in a length approx 3"" or 3.5"" long. The leather is still tight to whatever is underneath it because I was unable to take my fingernail and actually lift up the edge of the leather where it's separating to further picture that, however, that separation exists. I would suppose this saddle might work for various purposes: with new stirrups, maybe some local open showing because the separation won't show under your thigh, or for trail riding, or for lesson use, or for training young horses. It has life and use still for someone who can work around the seat separation.
