Hip 165: Swish by Nancy Davidson

Oil - 14" x 14"
Notes:

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, at a time when there were more ranches than wineries, Nancy Davidson has always been infatuated with horses and art. An early influence was her grandparents' collection of etchings by cowboy artist Ed Borein. His depictions of vaquero life completely enthralled the little city girl who dreamed of living on a ranch.

Nancy says, “I love all horses, but the Quarter Horse is my favorite to paint. They are athletic and powerful yet at the same time very refined. They come in a wide variety of colors. Beyond appearances, their place in history as the cowboy's horse of choice has made them a national icon. I was once told by an accomplished artist from Siberia that my art is ‘so American…it is all about freedom'. I guess it's only natural that I would want to paint the all-American horse!”
