Tall, Dark, and Handsome Gelding

Kodiak (aka Kody) is a 7-yr 16h black-bay Appendix gelding registered with the American Warmblood Registry.  He is a flashy boy with four white socks and a blaze.  Kody is a fantastic mover with lots of expression!  He is forward, but not hot.  Light on the aids, responsive, and very athletic.  Kody is a calm, quiet boy.  Enjoys having his mane and tail braided.  Currently training in trail riding, limited distance endurance, trail obstacle (same challenges used by mounted police), and an introduction to jumping.  Professionally trained in the 7 games of Parelli.

Kody enjoys hauling off-site for trail riding.  He is cool as a cucumber the minute he steps off the trailer in a new location.  He loves to swim in lakes, hop over logs on the trail, and crosses any obstacle without hesitation.  Kody is quiet and not spooky in groups of any size.  You can hack out on the buckle or drop the reins entirely and he will just follow and keep pace with gaited or non-gaited horses.  Responds to voice commands.  Comfortable to ride and has smooth transitions.  Stands quietly while tied to the trailer, even when parked next to a highway or in busy grounds.

Along with trail riding, Kody loves showing off at trail obstacle events!  He performs nearly every obstacle that the mounted police use for training.  He crosses bridges, teeter-totters, water crossings, tarps, etc.  Watch his video!  Our most recent trail obstacle event was themed and we dressed up as a peacock.  I guided Kodiak through the obstacle course that day with one hand so I could record with the other. 

Kodiak recently attended his first hunter pace with Misty Morning Hounds (and won first place).  He loved it!  Thought it was just one big, fun trail ride with cool jumps around every corner.  We jumped a few of the small logs and popped in and out of the water jump a few times.  Kody would like to have jumped everything, but he is far more talented with jumping than I am.  Kody didn't glance at any of the Halloween decorations on the pace.  He met a few hounds, walked past cows - no big deal.  He was well-behaved when we abruptly left the group to help a fallen rider and stood patiently while I held the naughty horse from horseback so the rider could mount up again.  Kody patiently stood on the trailer afterwards when I thought we were leaving, but decided to stay for lunch with said rider of the naughty horse.

Kody would be an excellent prospect for fox hunting!  He would be most suitable for 1st or 2nd flight because he is nicely forward and loves to jump.  He does fabulous on large group rides and is always patient when tied to the trailer or stopped during a ride.  Stands quietly on the buckle.  Respectful of hounds and livestock.  Moves out when asked and has a good stop.  Rides in a gentle double-jointed french snaffle.

Kody schools training level dressage (mainly out on the trails) and has been introduced to cross-country jumping.  He has beautiful gaits!  A relaxed walk, fancy ground-covering trot, and a smooth rocking horse canter with a large stride.  He shows nice form over fences and seems to really enjoy jumping.  But in all honesty, Kody thinks that riding alone with no other horses present is boring.  He would much rather be out jumping cross country at a hunter pace or riding at a trail obstacle event - really any activity where he feels there is a purpose to the ride.  Kody could be a good prospect for H/J, eventing, etc. but the rider would need to make the work interesting.  I think he has been spoiled with all of these fun group activities! Kody doesn't like arena work and is more of a follower than leader. 

Kody is microchipped and UTD on shots, Coggins, deworming, hoof trimming, floating, and chiro.  He is barefoot and lives out 24/7 with a mixed herd.  He is low on the totem pole and prefers to hang out with the submissive horses.  No vices or maintenance.  Leads, ties, loads, and easy to catch in the pasture - he walks right up to anyone with a halter.
