Hip 146: Meanwhile, Black at the Ranch by A.R. Mergelman

Oil & acrylic - 16" x 20"
Notes:

A horse person doesn't buy a horse for its color, but when a person is connected to them aesthetically as much as personally, it is a difficult temptation to resist. At this point in her life, Audrie finally owns a nice-headed, palomino quarter horse. His role is two-fold: he is part artist model and part riding partner. He seems more content to model than work much, but Audrie does study his shape and color as much as she tries to shape his thoughts about how they should be working together.

Her life-long connection with horses underlies her goal to portray horses realistically in anatomy, posture, and disposition; even though she intentionally works with abstraction, loose brushwork, and vivid color.

Along with the America's Horse In Art Show, she has recently exhibited at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show, the Goodnight Barn Invitational Show, and the Mountain Oyster Art Show in Tucson.
